Instrument Rating
Being a pilot offers many advantages to going someplace and returning when you choose – most of the time. The airplane performance can be predicted, equipment reliability is assured by scheduled maintenance, pilot readiness is easily evaluated, but a little bit of unforeseen weather can alter plans significantly. Though an Instrument Rating does not always assure on-time departure, it certainly increases the likelihood that plans for both departure and continued flight toward the destination are reasonable options.
At Flight Training Solutions, we feel we are uniquely equipped to offer a well-rounded training package that includes the use of both the airplane and an Advanced PC Aviation Training Device (Advanced PCATD.) Because of the valued assets we incorporate into our training, you will experience real-world IFR communications and the influence that the distractions inherent to flying have on work-load and flight performance. Additionally, the cost effective controlled environment of the PCATD will enable you to experience flight in IFR conditions down to approach minimums. In the PCATD, you will also become comfortable with recognizing instrument failures and mastering proper responses in the safety of simulated flight. The PCATD is unique in that training time efficiency is maximized by the ability to repeat key elements of instrument flight without spending wasted time to re-position the aircraft. Freezing the flight is also an advantage to facilitate discussion when needed. Incidentally, the PCATD can be used to fly and log your IFR proficiency requirements after you receive your new rating.
What about the cost?
Instrument Rating Cost
Airplane (C172) 20 Hours (Dual)
Advanced PCATD 10 Hours (Dual)
Ground School Materials
Flight Instructor 30 Hours (Ground)
Written Exam Preparation
Examiner Fee Not Included
If more than the time allotted above is needed, plan to pay normal rates for aircraft and fuel. NO additional instructor fees or Advanced PCATD fees will be charged (*).
Total Cost: $4800 (22% savings)
(Due in advance of training)
Additional Details:
- Need to have 10 hours of simulated Instrument flight prior to training initiation. If you do not have the 10 hours, 10 hours of additional time in the Advanced PCATD can be purchased for the reduced price of $500 if needed ($90 dollar savings off of normal rate).
- Plan to meet 3 times per week. You are allowed one excused absence during the flight training segment of the curriculum. (*) Additional absences could lead to termination of instructor fee limitation guarantee. In such case, normal fee charges for simulator and instructor fees would be charged for any additional training required beyond the 30 hour instructor and 10 hour Advanced PCATD guarantees.
- 50 hours of cross-country flight must be completed as an instrument rating prerequisite. This can be completed without the aid of an instructor before or concurrent with the training curriculum and is therefore not included in the above pricing.
